What Are The Options For Restoring Teeth With Dentures?

There are multiple types of dentures to restore a patient’s radiant smile best. After evaluating a patient’s need for dentures, the dentist will recommend the proper dentures for the patient. Once the dentures are inserted, some patients find it takes a few weeks to get accustomed to the device. Some experience minor irritation or soreness and dentures were feeling loose inside their mouths. These symptoms typically resolve within a few weeks. Follow-up appointments are needed to guarantee proper fitting and to guarantee complications are correctly addressed.

Dentures require daily brushing to ensure bacteria is appropriately removed. When not in use, it is best to place dentures in a container with water to prevent them from warping. What Is The Treatment To Eliminate Bad Breath?

To determine a patient’s bad breath, the dentist will smell both the breath from the mouth and nose then rate the odor on a scale. If it appears a patient’s tongue is the cause of the bad breath, The dentist may also scrape the tongue for an odor rating. After the evaluation, treatment options will be suggested. For most patients, bad breath treatment includes mouth rinse and toothpaste designed to kill bacteria built up in the mouth. For others, a recommendation to for periodontal (gum) treatment may be necessary to remove gum disease causing bad breath. Often bad breath can be lowered or prevented at home.

Brush Your Tongue

As stated before, the tongue collects most of the bacteria that cause bad breath, so regular brushing removes the build-up and lowers bad breath over time.

Avoid Dry Mouth

Keeping adequately hydrated helps promote saliva and in turn, keeps bad breath under control. Get a new toothbrush. Changing your toothbrush every three to four months guarantees the brush is functioning correctly while cleaning your teeth which removes bacteria and lowers bad breath.

Why Patients Choose Composite Fillings

Patients choose composite fillings to repair their dental health when there is a minor dental issue (non-severe damage or decay). Advances in modern dental materials and techniques have led to the increased use of composite fillings to keep a patient’s smile looking bright and natural after a cavity. The material used for the composite mixture is tooth-colored and bonds adhesively to a patient’s tooth. A benefit of composite fillings is that they require less of the unhealthy part of the tooth to be removed to seal the tooth.

How Composite Fillings Work

Once the decay is removed, an adhesive is placed on the tooth followed by thin layers of the composite. Our dentist uses a special light to cure or harden in less than a minute. Though the curing process is short, the overall process for composite fillings may take longer than fillers made from other materials because the tooth needs to be completely dry for the composite to properly bond to it. Patients find the process to be well worth the wait in order to keep a natural and fresh-looking smile.

Dental Inlay Treatment

We offer dental inlay treatment to prevent cavities from turning into root canals. Inlays/Onlays are indirect restorations using Emax (the type of material we use) fillings that our laboratory makes based on your tooth impression. Then we bond it to your tooth with a composite.

Dental Inlay Treatment vs. Dental Onlay Treatment

What’s the difference between dental inlay treatment and dental onlay treatment? The main distinction between an onlay and an inlay is that an onlay will cover a cusp of the tooth, whereas an inlay only fills the area between the cusps. The cavity is still drilled from the tooth, and an onlay is fabricated to the exact size and shape of the space. Inlay treatment involves filling a large cavity with a solid piece of Emax, custom-made to match the space left after removing the infected area of the tooth. The upside to an inlay is that they do not contract to the same degree as a filling after being placed, so there is less chance of the restoration failing for that reason, or creating a gap between the filling and the surrounding tooth structure. Onlay treatment is considered a less aggressive alternative to a dental crown.
