Why Patients Choose Composite Fillings

Patients choose composite fillings to repair their dental health when there is a minor dental issue (non-severe damage or decay). Advances in modern dental materials and techniques have led to the increased use of composite fillings to keep a patient’s smile looking bright and natural after a cavity. The material used for the composite mixture is tooth-colored and bonds adhesively to a patient’s tooth. A benefit of composite fillings is that they require less of the unhealthy part of the tooth to be removed to seal the tooth.

How Composite Fillings Work

Once the decay is removed, an adhesive is placed on the tooth followed by thin layers of the composite. Our dentist uses a special light to cure or harden in less than a minute. Though the curing process is short, the overall process for composite fillings may take longer than fillers made from other materials because the tooth needs to be completely dry for the composite to properly bond to it. Patients find the process to be well worth the wait in order to keep a natural and fresh-looking smile.

Dental Inlay Treatment

We offer dental inlay treatment to prevent cavities from turning into root canals. Inlays/Onlays are indirect restorations using Emax (the type of material we use) fillings that our laboratory makes based on your tooth impression. Then we bond it to your tooth with a composite.

Dental Inlay Treatment vs. Dental Onlay Treatment

What’s the difference between dental inlay treatment and dental onlay treatment? The main distinction between an onlay and an inlay is that an onlay will cover a cusp of the tooth, whereas an inlay only fills the area between the cusps. The cavity is still drilled from the tooth, and an onlay is fabricated to the exact size and shape of the space. Inlay treatment involves filling a large cavity with a solid piece of Emax, custom-made to match the space left after removing the infected area of the tooth. The upside to an inlay is that they do not contract to the same degree as a filling after being placed, so there is less chance of the restoration failing for that reason, or creating a gap between the filling and the surrounding tooth structure. Onlay treatment is considered a less aggressive alternative to a dental crown.

Getting A Dental Crown

If the damage to a patient’s tooth is severe or the decay requires deep repair, then our dentist may recommend getting a dental crown. The process of getting a dental crown involves creating a tooth-like cover made from various materials that envelopes the whole tooth above the gum line. Here at Pasha Dental, we offer a variety of different dental crowns made of Zirconia, Emax, or full porcelain. The full coverage of the crown restores shape, size, and strength while improving the appearance of the tooth. Overall, dental crowns are a prestigious option for repairing severely damaged teeth in addition to helping dental bridges remain in place.

Do I Need A Dental Crown?

In order to determine if a patient requires a dental crown, an initial dental visit for discovery is required. This generally involves taking x-rays, performing a dental cleaning, as well as audit the patient’s mouth. Below are some signs a patient might need a dental crown.

  • Broken or fractured teeth. If there isn’t enough tooth remaining to fix it via other methods, a crown can be an ideal repair solution. …
  • Cosmetic enhancement. …
  • Decayed teeth. …
  • Fractured fillings. …
  • Large fillings. …
  • The tooth has a root canal.

Dental Sealants For Oral Health

Aside from regular brushing and flossing, dental sealants for oral health can give you and your family added smile protection. In particular, dental sealants can help keep molars clean and prevent decay from attacking those hard-to-reach areas in teeth cleaning.

What are dental sealants for oral health?

Sealants are a thin protective coating made from dental materials that cover the deep grooves on the surfaces of a patient’s back teeth. Sealants are designed to help prevent the early stages of a cavity from progressing but are not a substitute for daily brushing and flossing. The Centers for Disease Control found that school-aged children benefit significantly from sealants by immensely reducing their risk for cavities. Sealants are a beneficial tool for patients to keep their natural teeth healthy for more extended periods.

Protect Teeth With A Layer Of Dental Sealant

Sealants are most beneficial when used early in a patient’s life. As soon as a patient’s molars appear, sealants can be placed to give an extra coating of protection for a cavity-free mouth in the future. It is best to ask the dentist when it would be best to apply sealants and if you are a good candidate.

Depending on the patients, most sealants last several years. Sealants are checked at each routine exam and may be reapplied as needed.

For more information about how sealants can help preserve the health of your family members’ teeth, please call our office. We look forward to the opportunity to schedule a consultation with you or answer any questions you may have about the process.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Impacted wisdom teeth occur when your third molars become partially or fully trapped in your gums or jawbone. The treatment solution for impacted wisdom teeth is usually wisdom tooth removal (oral surgery).

How Do I Know If I Have Impacted Wisdom Teeth?

Below are common signs that you may have impacted wisdom teeth. Please contact us if you are experiencing pain or a combination of these symptoms.

  • Pain or swelling of your jaw or face.
  • Red, swollen or bleeding gums.
  • A bad taste in your mouth.
  • Bad breath (halitosis).
  • Difficulty opening your mouth all the way.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

The process for wisdom teeth removal is simple and usually performed within one visit. Often, all four wisdom teeth are removed to guarantee the procedure’s success for the patient’s future oral health. The recovery process varies for each patient, but most find they are almost entirely back to normal within a few weeks of the procedure. If patients experience any unusual discomfort or swelling during or after the recovery process, it is vital for them to contact their dentist for immediate attention.
